Abstract:
The most serious diseases of narcissus are basal and neck rot: both caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. narcissi. The most useful cultivar, Golden Harvest, is also one of the most susceptible.
Finding an alternative with such good qualities but also with Fusarium resistance requires an efficient screening method to prove that resistance exists.
Tests were done using bulbils, chips, twin-scales and seedlings of Golden Harvest, Carlton and St Keverne.
Bulbils from one year old chips seemed to be the most useful host form.
