Abstract:
Although the potential diagnostic power of monoclonal antibodies (MCAs)* is superior to polyclonal antisera, a number of problems have to be solved before MCAs may be applied for diagnostic purposes in plants.
The data on MCAs against plant growth regulators and plant viruses show that these problems include the immunization protocol, ELISA procedures during cell cloning, stability of clones and the production of ascites.
In addition application may be hampered since MCAs may be too specific and lose activity after coating of ELISA plates or after conjugation.
