LEAF CURLING OF ANEMONE: SURVIVAL OF THE PATHOGEN AND CONTROL OF THE DISEASE (*)

Authors:   M. Lodovica Gullino, G. Lento, A. Garibaldi
Abstract:
Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, causal agent of leaf curling of anemone, did not survive in artificially inoculated soil in Italy longer than 3 months during spring and summer this result strongly suggests that the first foci of the disease in autumn are caused almost exclusively by the use of already infected corms.

Hot water treatments of corms (50°C for 15') gave good control of the pathogen on dry dormant corms, without significantly affecting their emergence. In the case of forced corms the highest temperature that can be reached without affecting emergence (42.5°C for 30') only partially controlled the pathogen. A combination of hot water treatments and fungicides dipping could reduce the employ of chemicals.
