ISHS Acta Horticulturae 176: International Symposium on Protected Cultivations in the Mediterranean Regions

EFFECT OF FOLIAR AND SOIL-APPLIED FERTILIZERS ON CUCUMBER PRODUCTION IN THE SUDAN

Author:   A.I. Mohamed
Abstract:
The varieties Baladi (snake cucumber) and Beit-Alpha (American cucumber) were planted on 22 October 1978 and 1979 at Shambat Research Farm and treated with granular, soil-applied urea and ammonium sulphate and with the liquid foliar fertilizer nitrophoska. The spacing was 50 and 200 cm within and between rows respectively using three seeds per hole. The fertilizers were applied one month after sowing.

No significant variation was observed between treatments as regards total yield. Marketability of fruits was highest in the untreated check for both varieties, and lowest in the urea + nitrophoska treatment followed by urea alone for the variety Baladi, and lowest in the urea treatment for the variety Beit-Alpha.
