Abstract:
Recent researches on viruses and virus diseases of vegetable crops in Sicily are reviewed.
They concern the identification of viruses and virus complexes causing specific diseases, their natural spreading and the prevention of crop losses by using virus-resistant cultivars.
Tomato and pepper plants, the most largely cultivated vegetables in greenhouse in Sicily, are frequently affected by TMV, CMV, PXV and PYV. Virus symptoms referred to a tobamovirus named pepper mild mottle virus (PMMV) have been observed in a line of Lamuyo pepper.
