CONTROL OF RHIZOCTONIA SOLANI KUHN USING INDUCED ANTAGONISM

Author:   W. Welvaert
Abstract:
In experiments on biological control the addition of chitin and chitin containing compounds such as shrimp shells (Crangon vulgaris F.) and mushroom waste (Pleurotus ostreatus Quelet) could reduce infection of Rhizoctonia solani Kühn on Coleus blumei L. cuttings after about 30 days. The induced antagonism was enhanced when also active actinomycete mycelium was added with enough chitin.
