Abstract:
The carbon balance of a tree has two components: the production of carbohydrate by the photosynthetic system and the partitioning of this carbohydrate among the functions (growth, maintenance, respiration, storage) and organs of the tree.
Here I will examine the approaches used to study these components in fruit trees (mainly temperate) and suggest ways in which we can use these approaches to help us understand the physiology of the tropical and subtropical tree fruits.
