ISHS Acta Horticulturae 175: Symposium on Physiology of Productivity of Subtropical and Tropical Tree Fruits

DATE PALM POLLEN GERMINATION AND TUBE ELONGATION ON PISTILLATE FLOWERS CULTURED AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES

Authors:   O. Reuveni, S. Abu, S. Golobovitz
Abstract:
In vitro studies of pollen germination were carried out at several time/temperature intervals on detached date palm flowers. Fastest germination and pollen tube elongation in the styles of female flowers occurred at 25 or 28°C. At these temperatures most of the pollen tubes reached the base of the style within 6 h; at 15°C, pollen tubes did not reach the base of the style during the 8-h observation period.
