ISHS Acta Horticulturae 174: Symposium Greenhouse Climate and its Control

DISCUSSION OF POSTERGROUP E: ANALYSIS AND SYNTHESIS OF CLIMATE CONTROL ALGORITHMS

Authors:   T. Kozai, M.J. le Mahieu
Abstract:
The main topic in this discussion was: to what extend are the newly developed greenhouse controlling techniques used by growers. The general opinion was that, except at institutes, the new techniques were hardly used in practice. Reasons for this could be:
  • growers wait for new developments and better controllers
  • growers prefer a simple, easy-to-operate system. The present systems are too complex for many growers.

Apart from this it is doubtful whether an advanced controller is better than a simple one. In the future models of the greenhouse climate will determine what type of controller will be used. At present the use of greenhouse models results in complex and expensive instrumentation in which especially the sensors are troublesome.
