ISHS Acta Horticulturae 174: Symposium Greenhouse Climate and its Control

PREFACE

Author:   G. H. Germing
Abstract:
The symposium Greenhouse Climate and its Control fits in a serie of ISHS meetings devoted to the problem of making more profitable use of energy in protected cultivation.

This symposium attracted much more participants than was expected, which emphasizes the great interest for the chosen subject. Because of the great number of contributions the organizers decided to restrict the presentations to posters. This turned out very well and the good level of the presentations made the meeting quite successful.

The symposium subject "Greenhouse Climate and its Control" was subdivided into 3 themes:

  • climate models
  • crop growth models
  • climate control

As a preparation the symposium was preceded by three small working-parties devoted to these 3 themes. During the symposium reports regarding these working-parties were presented.

In the program each of the three themes was spread over two sessions. Each session opened with an invited paper after which the posters were inspected.

In this Acta the papers are arranged according to the three themes. The reports regarding the working parties precede the other papers of the appropriate theme.

For each session an invited paper precedes the written contributions of the poster presentators. Short reports of the discussion sessions are inserted after the papers of the successive sessions. This Acta ends up with reports of the final interdisciplinary discussions.

This Acta about the Greenhouse Climate and its Control includes papers over the various aspects of this subject. We therefore hope it will be a useful book for all those who are engaged in greenhouses and greenhouse research.
