HORTICULTURAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL TESTING OF CANNING CLINGSTONE PEACH IN CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN ITALY

Abstract:
During 10 years, in two environments of central-south Italy (Rome and Caserta), 66 canning clingstone peach varieties have been tested both by the horticultural and technological point of view.

The origin of the examined cultivars is different: U.S.A. (31), Italy (12), Spain (8), South Africa (8), Australia (2), France (2), New Zeeland (2), Japan (1).

The best varieties for the climatic conditions of central-south Italy, according to the time of ripening refered to Vivian (July 17th-22nd), were: Loadel (-16), Villa Doria (-13), Villa Adriana (-11), Villa Ada (-7), Fortuna (-5), Sweeny (-3), Shasta (-2), Vivian (0), Babygold 5 (+1), Villa Giulia (+1), Bowen (+4), Babygold 6 (+6), Babygold 7 (+10), Andross (+19), Babygold 8 (+26), Babygold 9 (+31), Everts (+36), Merriam (+38), Goodman's Choice (+42).
