ISHS Acta Horticulturae 172: Composts as Horticultural Substrates

BEHAVIOUR OF TWO DIFFERENT COMPOSTS USED AS SUBSTRATES

Authors:   J. Arnó, M. Soliva
Abstract:
We have worked with two types of composts obtained from pine bark and sewage sludge. The differences between the two composts are due to the different origin of the sludges.

One of them was from the village of Tossa, it had been aerobically digested and dried in threshing floors. The other one was from Blanes, it had been aerobically digested and precipitated with calcium and iron hydroxides and then filtered.

Ficus benjamina and Scindap sus auereus have been used in this experience. We have studied growth parameters, and the changes of the composts characteristics during the growth.
