MATHEMATICAL MODELLING OF PLANT GROWTH AND STRESS

Author:   S. Marsili-Libelli
Abstract:
This paper attempts to define a new model for plant growth which accounts for the effect of environmental factors as well as self-induced development and decay (senescence). It results from a modification of the well-known logistic equation in which the senescence of the vegetative cell is considered. It is shown how this model is capable of reproducing growth parameters such as Relative Growth Rate (RGR), Net Assimilation Rate (NAR) and of describing every phase of plant growth, including the after-flowering decline. It can therefore be considered a suitable tool for the analysis and prediction of crop management.
