Abstract:
Recent research has shown that auxins may have a major role in controlling stomatal behaviour.
IAA can reduce the closing response to ABA, and it appears to take part with ABA in the regulation of the response to CO2. Another function of IAA may be the determination of the relative openings of adaxial and abaxial stomata.
Although IAA stimulates opening, its synthetic analogues are inhibitory.
In the future it may be possible to make use of these responses to impose artificial controls on stomata.
