Abstract:
A glasshouse lined with clear PVC panels has been compared for two growing seasons with a similar unlined glasshouse.
In both houses the transmission of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) has been measured and the performance of tomato crops has been recorded, while the comparative heat consumption of the two houses has been estimated.
In 1984 the mean PAR transmission of the lined house was 59%, as against 68% for the unlined house, but in spite of this difference crop receipts from the lined house were only 1.6% lower.
The estimated saving in heat consumption in the lined house was 29%.
