| Abstract:
In the strawbale method the plants are planted in a small bed of a soil/ peat compost (capping medium) placed on top of the bales of straw. The success of peat as a tomato substrate suggested that fertilized peat could be used to replace the soil in the capping medium. A peat capping on straw substrates would provide a more uniform and reproducible medium which would not need to be sterilized. The present experiment was designed to study the effects of three capping media on the yield and quality of tomatoes grown on peat capped strawbale and straw-wad substrates. | |
