Authors:   T. Gozob, E. Rudi, St. Chiriac
Abstract:
In order to obtain new sweet cherry with yellow skin fruit gor processing and to extend the ripening season, at the Fruit. Research Institute Pitesti-Maracineni, a special breeding program was initiated.

The hybridizitations were done between 1971–1974, using as parents Bigarreau Dönissen, Craiesti de mai, Schneider späte, Bälai timpurii and Pietroasa neagra de Odesa varieties.

There were selected 26 elites from 142 hybrids with yellow skin fruits, having the following characteristics:

  • early ripening (May 25 – June 4) : H 75/56, 77/39, 75/57;
  • good resistance to cracking : H 77/39, 69/17, 68/54;
  • easy abscission of fruits : H 77/39;
  • small and free pit : H 69/13, 65/44, 65/24, 69/17, 36/6;
  • good processing characteristics as fruits in water without sugar : H 65/39, 77/45, 36/6, 65/9.

The results proved that is possible to have a sweet cherry assortment with yellow skin fruits for a season of ripening of 20–25 days.
