Abstract:
Equipment, techniques, and treatments are given for rooting softwood cuttings in outdoor beds under mist.
They proved satisfactory for clonal propagation of interspecific cherry hybrids and Prunus species to be tested as rootstocks in field trials.
A rooting success of 71 percent was achieved in about 45 thousand cuttings propagated between 1979 and 1984. In 13 selected clones, differences in rooting potential were observed in the six years.
Juvenility of stock plants and other source effects are important for high rates of rooting success in the standardized propagation routine used.
