Abstract:
Cutting propagation is necessary in forest tree breeding to produce selected clones to make up elite-clonal-mixtures.
The aim of this study was to develop a simple, inexpensive method suitable for mass propagation of Prunus avium.
Month of insertion, different substrats and different growth hormones were tested to find an optimal combination of these treatments.
Insertion of cuttings in June and November and a substrate of pure gravel resulted in best rooting.
Growth hormones had no significant effect.
Survival of cuttings rooted in gravel was better than those rooted in peat-sand.
Overwintering in a frost free greenhouse resulted in best survival and optimal growth of those plants rooted in peat sand.
