Abstract:
In 1972 about 900 seedling trees originating from 28 interspecific crosses and five open-pollinated species were planted.
In 1981 to 1983 they were cut off 20 cm above ground and data of canopy size, trunk circumference and fresh weight were recorded.
The largest trees were P.avium F 12/1 and crossings of P.avium with P.subhirtella, with P.pseudocerasus and P.canescens x P.pseudocerasus.
Smallest trees were P.cerasus self- and open-pollinations, followed by P.incisa, P.canescens and P.cerasus x P.fruticosa.
Fresh weight gave the best differentiation of progenies: the mean weight of the lightest progeny amounted to 2.4 percent of the heaviest.
Respective portions are 8.6 for canopy size and 26.2 percent for trunk circumference.
Variability within each progeny diminishes in the same order from fresh weight to trunk circumference.
