Abstract:
Growth rates of shoots of 20 sweet cherry cultivars (Prunus avium) and 14 clonal rootstocks from interspecific crosses and P.avium F 12/1 were studied.
A high variation in growth rates and time of shoot growth cessation was found, with sign, correlations between date of growth cessation and the average length of shoots.
Trees of cv. 'Hedelfinger' grafted on clonal rootstocks showed patterns of shoot growth and time of shoot growth cessation similar to the ungrafted rootstocks, with a good correlation between these data and the canopy volume of trees.
