Abstract:
176 rootstock clones grafted with the cultivars Büttners Rote Knorpel and Hedelfinger were studied in their 3rd and 4th season in the field.
The flowering and fruiting potential induced by rootstock clones was determined as spurs, flowers, and fruits per meter 2-year old wood as this accounts for 80 % of the fruit produced.
Differences between the clones expressed as spurs, flowers and fruits were enormous with the best clone having a ratio of 25 : 670 : 255 in 1984 and the worst clone 6 : 50 : 0. F 12/1 had 12 : 109 : 3. The chances of selecting a precocious and dwarfing clone are best among the E x E triploids and worst among the E x P diploids, although there are some interesting clones in all groups of origin.
