ISHS Acta Horticulturae 169: International Workshop on Improvement of Sweet and Sour Cherry Varieties and Rootstocks

A NEW AUTOCHTHONOUS VEGETATIVE ROOTSTOCK FOR SWEET AND SOUR CHERRY

Authors:   P. Parnia, Gh. Mladin, M. Popescu, L. Bulgaru
Abstract:
"IP-Cl" rootstock obtained by hibridization of Mocanesti sour cherry variety with Prunus avium 33/26 sweet cherry biotype is used for grafting of sweet and sour cherry varieties in order to obtain dwarf trees for high density orchards establishment.

It is vegetatively propagated by cuttings, layers and in vitro tissue culture; it gives to the grafted sweet and sour cherry varieties a low to medium vigour and a significant bear precocity.

It is more resistant to the temporary excess of water in the soil and it stands better for the heavy and loam soils than the other generative rootstocks used in our country.
