THE SOUR CHERRY BREEDING PROGRAM IN ROMANIA |

| Abstract:
In 1971 a breeding program was started at Fruit Research Institute Pitesti-Maracineni, having the following objectives : resistance to Coccomyces hiemalis, self-fertility, different time of fruit ripening, low fruit removal force (for the mechanical harvesting) and high quality fruits. From crosses between 20 sour cherry varieties there were selected 14 hybrids. Among them 18/30 (named Tarina), 18/30, 17/30 (in course of naming), 18/26, 20/89 and others meet the objectives of breeding program. | |
