| Abstract:
This paper is an up-to-date information about the studies on winter-hardiness of woody plants in PRC. The article consists of four parts: a) the decidious trees in temperate zone, b) the broad leaved evergreen trees in subtropical region, c) the rubber trees in southern China, d) the identification of freezing hardiness and the mechanism of freezing injury and freezing resistance. The authors put emphasis on the occurrence of freezing injury, the special cultural practices, the main achievements in breeding, and the use and screening of freezing resistant germplasms. In addition, the application of meteorology in citrus growing and artificial ecosystem in rubber tree culture are particularly reviewed. In the vast territory of PRC the wintering problem of woody plants exists widely in various climate zones. It covers not only in the different zones of vegetation but also in the cultivated plants, especially fruit trees. | |
