Abstract:
The activities of a K,Mg-ATPase from purified plasma membrane vesicles from nonacclimated needles of Pinus sylvestris have been studied in relation to different freezing temperatures.
As a comparison the enzyme cytochrome c oxidase was also studied.
After freezing to lethal temperatures, the activity of the K,Mg-ATPase decreased to zero, while that of cytochrome c oxidase did not significantely change.
This indicates the importance of the K,Mg-ATPases as the primary target of freezing injuries.
