Abstract:
Tight rose (Rose Tea Hybrida) buds of cultivar Sonia were developed to commercial maturity in a vase solution containing 8-hydroxyquinoline citrate (300 ppm) and sucrose (2 %). In very tight buds (19:13 mm and showing no color) development included substantial growth of the peduncle.
The subsequent vase life of flowers obtained from buds was similar to that of those harvested at commercial maturity.
The Buds' development was strongly inhibited by low concentrations of ethylene, but this effect could be prevented by pretreating the buds with the anionic silverthiosulfate complex.
