ISHS Acta Horticulturae 167: II Symposium on Growth Regulators in Floriculture

CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS BETTER KNOWLEDGE OF PYRACANTH /COTONEASTER DIVARICATA I./ SEED DORMANCY

Author:   W. Kaminski
Abstract:
30 or 45 minutes of scarification with H2SO4 of pyracanth /Cotoneaster divaricata/ and cold stratification at 2 – 5°C brought, after 180 days, about 80% germinated seeds. Gibberellin /GA3/ in concentration of 1000 ppm enhanced seed germination of control and scarified seeds about 10%. The cold stratification was much more effective than joint warm and cold stratification /30 or 60 days at 22°C and 150 or 180 days at 2 – 5°C/.
