ISHS Acta Horticulturae 167: II Symposium on Growth Regulators in Floriculture

THE USE OF GROWTH REGULATORS IN NURSERY PRODUCTION OF WOODY ORNAMENTAL PLANTS - II. THE EFFECT OF GROWTH REGULATORS ON BRANCHING OF SOME WOODY ORNAMENTAL PLANTS

Authors:   M. Grzesik, R. M. Rudnicki
Abstract:
The effect of growth regulators Promalin, Alar, Ethrel, BA, GA3, Stimulin, MH, Atrinal, CCC, on the branching of Forsythia x intermedia ‘Spectabilis’, Weigela florida ‘Styriaca’, Rosa multiflora, Salix alba ‘Tristis’ and Spiraea japonica ‘Macrophylla’ was investigated.

The sprouting of new shoots was dependent on the plant species, kind of growth regulator, and number of applications. All treatments promoted the branching of the Forsythia xintermedia plants. The greatest increases of branching were observed after the treatment of Weigela with GA3, of Rosa with Promalin, of Salix with Alar and of Spiraea with BA.

Spraying once with Promalin, Ethrel, GA3 and Stimulin effected the early flowering of the Forsythia plants, while the triple treatment with Promalin and Stimulin delayed it.
