Abstract:
Water stress and ABA treatment caused a substantial reduction in the rate of water loss from potted chrysanthemum /Chrysanthemum morifolium L. cv.
Puritan/ plants.
Reduced stomatal aperture following water stress was associated with increased endogenous ABA concentrations.
Stressing the plants by irrigating with 100 mM NaCl before harvest, which also reduced subsequent water loss, reduced stomatal aperture, but had no significant effect on ABA content of the leaves.
It appears that salt stressing affects stomatal apertures directly.
