Abstract:
The present study was undertaken at the farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, Zagazig University, in two sucessive seasons.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different concentrations of kinetin /1, 10 and 50 ppm/, gibberellin /10, 100 and 500 ppm/, ethephon /1, 10 and 100 ppm/ and gamma irradiation doses /83, 166, 249 and 415 rad/ on the anatomical structure of gladiolus stem apex variety Eurovision.
The most important results can be summarized as follows:
- The differentiation and development of lobes, flower primordia and the extension of the flower spike were advanced as the concentrations of kinetin, gibberellin, ethephon and gamma irradiation doses decreased, one month after planting.
- The conductive tissues increased as the kinetin and gibberellin concentrations decreased, one month after planting.
- The flower spikes were elongated and further differentiation of individual flowers occurred as a result of all treatments under study.
- The ovary was developed and contained numerous ovules.
The anthers contained more pollen grains, as a result of treating with 10 ppm gibberellin and most gamma irradiation doses than the other treatments of gibberellin, ethephon as well as the control.
