Abstract:
In a collection of Vaccinium corymbosum L. plants indigenous to Quebec, all 114 studied cytologically were terraploid with 48 somatic chromosomes.
Several types of chromosome abnormalities were observed and these are reported on.
More than half had pollen stainability scores of 3.0 or higher.
The low occurrence of abnormalities at meiosis and the relatively high pollen stainability rate from the majority of plants would therefore indicate that there are few serious barriers to breeding these clones.
