Abstract:
Nitrogen was applied to highbush blueberries cv. 'Berkeley' using ammonium sulphate-nitrate as well as the slow release fertilizer Crotodur.
Treatments of 0 kg, 30 kg, 60 kg, 90 kg, and 120 kg N/ha were compared.
The best crop yields per plant were obtained with 30 kg N/ha, whereas higher applications decreased yields.
Increasing N supply induced higher N, P, and K levels in the leaves but reduced Ca and Mg contents. 1.34% – 1.46% N in the dry matter of leaves proved to be at optimum.
The annual nitrogen needs of highbush blueberry plantings in their best cropping age could be calculated with 36 – 41 kg N/ha.
