INTENSIVE METHODS FOR BLUEBERRY PROPAGATION

Authors:   Gh. Badescu, M. Botez, L. Badescu, E. Enache
Abstract:
In Romania, an intensive programme for small fruits culture in the most favourable areas has been presently initiated.

Highbush blueberry will be planted in the next 5–6 years on an acreage of 1200 ha. About 5 million plants are needed.

One of the main objectives of our programme is nursery stock production.

In foreign investigations /Liebster, 1961; Haas, Hildebrandt, 1963; Eck, Childers, 1966; Douglas, 1967; Lamb, 1967/ as well as Romanian ones /Badescu et al., 1975, 1979, 1983/ it was noted that rooting depends on several biological and technological factors.

In this respect in the period 1975–1983 at the Fruit Research Station Argeselu, investigations on improving the technology in blueberry propagation were carried out.
