INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT PRUNING OF THE MOTHER PLANTS ON THE PRODUCTION OF HARDWOOD CUTTINGS FOR HIGHBUSH BLUEBERRY PROPAGATION

Author:   K. Smolarz
Abstract:
The aim of the experiment was to find out the most suitable type of pruning to get the best production of hardwood cuttings for propagation of highbush blueberry. Strong, moderate and mild pruning of mother plants were compared.

The very strong pruning of plants stimulated the growth of many good quality whips suitable for cuttings. The moderate and mild pruning resulted in producing small amount of one year old shoots. Therefore it is suggested that for obtaining many good quality cuttings all shoots of mother plants should be cut a few centimeters above the ground level.
