Abstract:
Methods and concepts used to evaluate and differentiate the relative immunoractivities and specificity of monoclonal antibodies (Mabs) to plant viruses are presented.
Seven monoclonal Mabs against generated against apple mosaic virus (ApMV) and Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (NRSV) were analyzed for Mab isotype, virus serogroup specificity, binding activity In different ELISA procedures, and for epitope specificity in competitive inhibition assays.
The Mabs can differentiate at least five different serotypes of ApMV and three serotypes of NRSV. At least six different epitopes can be delineated by the seven Mabs.
The suitability of monoclonal antibodies for serodiagnosis will be discussed.
