Abstract:
A virus from Boussingaultia cordifolia and B. gracilis f. pseudo-baselloides (Basellaceae), tentatively designated "boussingaultia mosaic virus" in Hungary, was shown by precipitin tube tests and immunosorbent electron microscopy to be serologically closely related to authentic strains of papaya mosaic virus from Carica papaya (Caricaceae) and Ullucus tuberosus (Basellaceae). Virus isolates from the three species differed in their host ranges and symptomatology; nevertheless, their close serological relationship indicates that the isolate from B. cordifolia, like that from U. Tuberosus, should now be considered a strain of papaya mosaic virus.
