Abstract:
The 2M LiCl insoluble RNA extracts of both the severe and latent strains of chrysanthemum chlorotic mottle viroid (ChCMV-s and CHCMV-l) have higher infectivity titers than do the soluble fractions.
Chrysanthemum stunt viroid, potato spindle tuber viroid, citrus exocortis viroid, and columnea viroid are primarily soluble in 2M LiCl.
ChCMV-s and ChCMV-l migrate at the same rate as the 7s RNA in 5% polyacrylamide gels.
No RNA band unique to ChCMV-infected tissue was observed in 5, 10, or 15% non-denaturing gels.
Attempts to recover infectious ChCMV RNA from gels under fully denaturing conditions were unsuccessful.
