Abstract:
Two new research fields are being explored with viruses of ornamental bulbs, viz. nucleic acid hybridisation and production of monoclonal antibodies.
Progress has been made in other branches of bulb virus research.
This contribution will briefly review the various developments in:
- the identification of viruses and diagnosis of virus diseases,
- detection methods and their use,
- virus control, including resistance breeding, and
- production, propagation, and distribution of virus-tested bulbs.
