Abstract:
Insects are the principal vectors of plant viruses and mollicutes.
Beetles among the holometabolous insects and Homoptera among the paurometabolous insects are the most important vector groups.
Three recent studies are high-lighted in this review.
The first deals with beetle regurgitant and its role in specificity of transmission of beetle-borne viruses.
The second deals with helper component and its role in transmission of nonpersistent aphid-borne viruses.
Finally the biology, ecology, and behavior of a leafhopper vector and its non-pest relatives are discussed.
A hoped for result is that these studies will eventually lead to new approaches to virus disease control.
