Abstract:
Bean yellow mosaic virus (BYMV), pea mosaic virus (PMV), and clover yellow vein virus (CYVV) were compared by double antibody sandwich direct ELISA. PMV and CYVV antisera could distinguish strains of PMV and CYVV but not those of BYMV. Aphid and sap inoculations failed to infect white clover with PMV but BYMV was detected in white clover.
Long term passage of PMV or CYVV in one host changed the symptom type and infectivity of the passaged isolates for other hosts but did not change their serological reactivity.
