ISHS Acta Horticulturae 164: VI International Symposium on Virus Diseases of Ornamental Plants

NEW SEROLOGICAL PROCEDURES INCLUDING THE DEVELOPMENT AND USES OF MONOCLONAL ANTIBODIES IN VIRUS DETECTION AND DIAGNOSlS

Author:   M.H.V. Van Regenmortel
Abstract:
Recent advances in methods of serodiagnosis of plant virus infections are discussed. New variations of solid phase immunoassays (ELISA, RIA and ISEM), rocket immunoelectrophoresis and immunoblotting used for detecting plant viruses are described. Monoclonal antibodies have been prepared against more than 20 different plant viruses. The advantages of these new reagents are : 1) easier immunization of animals 2) better standardization and 3) increased specificity.
