Abstract:
Meristems of Lilium longiflorum 'Arai' and Lilium 'Enchantment' were isolated and cultured in vitro.
They had been formed adventitiously on bulb-scale explants infected with lily symptomless virus (LSV) and tulip breaking virus (TBV), on an inducing medium with or without Virazole.
The number of induced meristems and their growth were not influenced by Virazole in the concentration range 0.0 – 40.0 μM. At 400.0 μM bulblet growth was severely reduced.
The percentage of meristem-cultured plants of Lilium longiflorum 'Arai' infected with LSV and/or TBV was reduced by Virazole (40.0 μM) from 61.4 % to 35.4 %, whereas for Lilium 'Enchantment' the drug had no effect on virus eradication (19.4 and 18.7 %, respectively).
Most of the LSV-infected plants, but only few of the TBV-infected plants could be detected with ELISA directly after the culture in the tube.
