ISHS Acta Horticulturae 160: III International Symposium on Research and Development on Orchard and Plantation Systems

MODELLING THE BIOLOGICAL AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF AN APPLE ORCHARD

Author:   F. Winter
Abstract:
The simulation model FRUPRO1 is used to compute biological and economic results based on various input parameters for a 1 ha orchard. The calculation of natural crops is based on the 'PROGNOSFRUIT' crop forecast model, developed at Bavendorf Research Station. This model defines the natural crop from the yield capacity of trees, the fruit set density and the average fruit mass.

Biological and economic standard parameters are stored on parameter files. Those files can be handled and enlarged by specific file handling programs.

The user can run FRUPRO1 for each area, cultivar, fruit and material price scale, whereof parameters on the corresponding files are available. The model is divided in submodels, which can be run also separately:-

  • Planting
  • Evolution of tree capacity
  • Distribution of yield by quality and grading classes
  • Mechanisation
  • Picking
  • Pruning

FRUPRO1 is written in FORTRAN and is available now for 64K micro-computers on CP/M.
