ISHS Acta Horticulturae 160: III International Symposium on Research and Development on Orchard and Plantation Systems

EFFECTS OF SOME NEW ROOTSTOCKS ON ORCHARD BEHAVIOUR OF APPLE TREES

Author:   H.J. van Oosten
Abstract:
Several new apple rootstocks were studied for their effect on tree vigour, yield and fruit quality. M.27, M.20, 3426 and C.G. 60 were markedly less vigorous than M.9. Especially M.27 may be used for control of tree vigour in areas where M.9 is not dwarfing enough. B.9, C.G. 10, C.G. 44 and C.G. 80 were intermediate between M.9 and M.26 in their control of tree vigour. Of these stocks B.9 and C.G. 44 are of interest because of a fairly high ratio of yield per m2 of ground covered. C.G. 24 and C.G. 47 were more vigorous than M.26 and less productive.
