Abstract:
A number of central-leader tree forms with advantages in terms of self-regulation of growth and ease of pruning have been factorially combined with several canopy inclinations.
The objective is to increase the homogeneity of the microclimate within the tree and access to fruits (as in the Tatura Trellis, Yanco M.I.A. and Lincoln Canopy systems). The experiments are at the Toulenne (Gironde) INRA orchard for the main tree-fruit species.
The diversity of plant structures so obtained will allow ecophysiological measurements, some of which will follow procedures previously used on grapevine training systems.
