SOME ASPECTS OF DEVELOPMENTAL PHYSIOLOGY OF LECONTE PEAR

Authors:   S.S. Mann, B. Singh
Abstract:
Studies on the physical and biochemical changes during development and maturation of LeConte pear were conducted during 1980. The fruits of LeConte took 135 days after fruit setting to reach harvest maturity. The fruit weight and volume increased whereas the specific gravity decreased with the advancement of fruit development. The fruit color changed from green to yellow green and the firmness decreased with advancement of maturity. There was an increase in total soluble solids with a corresponding fluctuation in the acids content of the fruit. The sugars increased with the advancement of picking season, though remarkable increase was recorded in fruits reaching maturity.
