Abstract:
The studies on the thermostability of 4 citrus species namely sweet orange, sweet lime, mandarin and grapefruit were conducted.
Uniform budsticks after removal of leaves were immersed in the thermostatically controlled water bath for 15, 30, 60 and 120 minutes at 40°C, 45°C and 50°C temperature with a view to know the maximum tolerance limit of buds of these species of citrus.
At 50°C the buds of different species were tolerant only upto 15 minutes duration beyond which there was 100 per cent mortality.
The tolerance of the buds was more when 40 and 45°C temperatures were tried for longer duration.
There was a positive relation between the temperature and the duration of treatment in effecting percentage bud mortality.
