IMPROVEMENTS IN THE AIRLAYERING PROPAGATION METHOD FOR LYCHEE AND MACADAMIA TREES

Author:   A. Kadman
Abstract:
During recent years we have developed and examined some improvements in the airlayering method for the propagation of lychee and macadamia trees. This method consists of the following: The branch to be airlayered is first girdled with an adjustable plier and then a previously prepared damp peatball is applied to the girdled zone. Rates of 90–100% rooting were achieved in airlayerings of lychee within 2–3 months, and of macadamia within 4–5 months. The use of KIBA auxin in an attempt to enhance root formation did not show any advantage over the controls with either lychee or macadamia airlayerings.
