Abstract:
The cultivars Kennebec, Kolos, and Patrones were tested under Central Sudan conditions on three planting dates, 14 November, 14 December, and 14 January 1978. Dry matter was highest at early planting except for the cultivar Kennebec which gave highest dry matter when planted on the 14 December.
Patrones gave the highest average dry matter content and lowest protein content of the three cultivars.
The later the planting date after the 14 November the higher was the protein content of tubers regardless of the cultivar.
Yield and tuber size decreased as planting was delayed after the 14 November with all tested cultivars, but Patrones gave significantly higher yield than any of the other two when planting has to be delayed.
